“Where’s The Dragon?”

This book is different from the others on the shelf mostly because the author had the book’s art pages given a shiny embossed detail so you can feel the embossing with your figures and see a light shine when lifting the pages. It’s done this way because the artist has hidden dragon faces throughout the book, and the embossing helps those slight figures stand out a little bit more. The pages are thicker like most pop-up books are. I only wished they took another step forward and make it used glow-in-the-dark-embossing, or rainbow-reflective-embossing. The light shine is nice, but it really doesn’t add that much to the story I think. This story is about a little boy named George who visits his grandfather who’s a talented wood carver every summer and listens to his grandfathers stories about the legendary dragons that use to live there in the land many years ago. Finally George asks “can they really be real?”, so they all (including the grandfathers dog) set out on a quest to see if Dragons really do exist. The funny thing is that throughout the whole story, they are constantly rubbing elbows with dragons but the grandfather just never really realizes it. Like he says “Seeing IS believing”. At the end of the book, the writer challenges the reader to figure out just how many dragons ARE there is this book, hidden and in plain sight. Short reading, pretty detailed pages with hidden surprises. If you've got a Dragon lover in the family, I think they would really like reading this book.
